Recovery From MTF Breast Augmentation

Transitioning procedures can be hard to navigate alongside emotional, mental, and lifestyle stressors that may come along with the process. Board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon Dr. Adibfar and his attentive and compassionate team help patients navigate this challenging season to make the process as smooth, safe, and enjoyable as possible! In this article, we’ll be discussing what recovery is like for a male-to-female breast augmentation.

It’s certainly imperative that transitioning patients seek out the expertise of a qualified board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon with experience in male-to-female breast augmentation. With the right surgeon and a well-tailored plan, patients can not only expect the most flattering and natural-looking results, but also a recovery period that is well-managed, faster, and with fewer complications and/or risks.

These highly-tailored procedures will always vary in their recovery depending on the patient, however, general recovery guidelines do follow.

Taking Time Off

Taking time out of your busy schedule will be necessary, especially immediately after surgery. We typically recommend that patients take a minimum of one week off work and have help from supportive friends and/or family for food or any other basic needs that may need to be met or need assistance with.

Physical Activity

Your first week will require more rest however short and easy walks are a great idea to keep your detoxification system and blood circulation functioning well and aiding in recovery. All other strenuous activities like heavy lifting and running should be avoided until you are cleared by your surgeon.

Garments

Patients undergoing a breast augmentation will need to wear a compression garment or specialized bra for at least one month. This will protect and allow the skin and chest to heal as well as acclimate to the new shape, size, and projection. After getting clearance, patients will be able to remove garments or where a more flattering bra if desired.

The First Few Weeks

While the recovery process certainly won’t last forever, the first few weeks will require your undivided attention when it comes to taking care of your body, attending your appointments, and paying special detail to your surgeon’s post-operative recovery instructions. This time will also include less strenuous and stressful activities on your body and much-needed relaxation alongside gentle movement.

After a full recovery patients are thrilled to see a more feminine-looking silhouette and chest. Patients are finally able to look in the mirror and begin to see more of who they really are, as well as represent themselves more fully to their peers and the world. This allows for a more comfortable, confident, and happier lifestyle as transitioning patients begin to see their dreams come to fruition with Dr. Adibfar’s help.
